Candidates must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, pride in the achievements of local awardees and leadership.  Examples of nomination categories include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

Note: The Selection Committee will use discretion in inducting individuals to the Hall of Fame. The Committee is not bound to select an individual for all categories listed.

Nomination Criteria

The Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee meets annually to elect inductees in accordance with set number of qualifications. These qualifications should be considered when submitting nomination forms.

Nominees are defined as anyone who met the Nomination Criteria and whose form has been received by the Selection Committee by the established deadline.

Inductees into the Hall of Fame are selected based on the following criteria:

Individual Nomination

  1. Candidates must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, pride in the achievements of local awardees, and leadership.
  2. Must have been a Montgomery County resident before or during the time the candidate achieved recognition or have maintained a strong affiliation with the county while achieving prominence.
  3. Must have contributed to the advancement and betterment of sports in Montgomery County.
  4. Individuals must have gained prominence as a player, coach, or official on the high school, collegiate, or professional level.
    • High School: For single sport, accomplishments should be especially noteworthy:
      • Record holder
      • State, Regional, Conference Championship
      • Volunteer in the community
      • Honors/Awards, special recognition for experience in athletics, other Halls of Fame that have recognized this individual (i.e., MVP)
      • Two pride in the achievements of local awardees references (nominator not considered reference)
    • Coaches and Officials: Coaching for at least five (5) years in Montgomery County and/or retired.
    • Professional athletes must have gained prominence as a player and must be retired to be eligible for nomination.
    • Sports Contributors, Mentors, and Community Volunteer/Leaders must have made significant contributions to sports in Montgomery County.
  5. Self-nomination will not be accepted.
  6. Any other special category selected by the Selection Committee may be included if such individual has made a noteworthy contribution to Montgomery County Sports.

Organizations/Sponsors

  1. Organizations or sponsors must be located in or have been located in Montgomery County.
  2. Must have been a major contributor or benefactor of sports activities in Montgomery County.

The MCSHF Board of Directors reserves the right to honor others for special endeavors, teams of distinction, teams, and individuals of yesteryear, courageous athletes, etc.

The MCSHF Board of Directors reserves the right to remove any inductee from the Hall of Fame for personal conduct which reflects negatively upon himself/herself, the MCSHF, or Montgomery County.
